Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a written exam for AFMS?
No written examination. AFMS selection is entirely based on physical fitness test, medical examination, and a selection board interview. This makes it accessible even if you did not score high in NEET PG or UPSC CMS.
Can female doctors join AFMS?
Yes. Women can join all three branches — Army, Navy and Air Force as SSC Medical Officers. Physical standards differ for female candidates. Women are not posted to combat roles but serve in military hospitals, field medical units, and other non-combat positions.
Can I do NEET PG after joining AFMS?
Yes. AFMS allows SSC MOs to appear for in-service NEET PG (with service quota and marks benefit). The armed forces also have their own PG programmes at AFMC Pune and military hospitals. Many AFMS doctors complete MD/MS during their service tenure.
