What NEET PG actually decides

NEET PG is the single national entrance test that determines admission to MD, MS, and PG diploma courses at nearly all medical colleges in India — government and private, with the notable exception of AIIMS and the other INI institutions, which admit through INI-CET instead. Your NEET PG rank feeds into two separate counselling processes: the all-India quota seats counselled by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and the state quota seats counselled separately by each state's own authority — so a candidate's realistic seat options depend on both their rank and their home-state domicile status.

The exam draws on the full MBBS curriculum across all subjects, but not evenly — some subjects (Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Pediatrics) consistently carry more weight in the actual paper than their nominal share of the MBBS curriculum would suggest.
